Our Beliefs

The Holy Scriptures

We believe the Old and New Testament Scriptures are the verbally and plenarily inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God-breathed and are, therefore, the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the complete and divine revelation of God to Man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal historical-grammatical meaning, and all issues of interpretation and meaning shall be determined by the pastor. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only translation used by the church

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

The Godhead

We believe in one triune God, eternally existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, coequal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections.

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

The Sinfulness of Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin through disobedience. As a result, all people are sinners by nature and by choice and are separated from God.

Because of this sinful condition, mankind cannot save themselves and must rely entirely upon the grace of God through Jesus Christ for salvation.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Salvation

We believe that salvation is the free gift of God received by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Man is a sinner by nature and cannot save himself by good works or religion.

Salvation comes when a person repents of sin and places their faith in Jesus Christ alone.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works, lest any man should boast.”
— Ephesians 2:8–9

Eternal Security of the Believer

We believe that those who truly receive Jesus Christ as Savior are eternally secure in Him. Salvation is not maintained by human effort but by the grace and power of God.

Every believer is kept by the power of God and cannot lose their salvation, because it is a gift of God secured through the finished work of Jesus Christ.

“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”

The Church

We believe the local church is a congregation of baptized believers united for worship, fellowship, prayer, and the preaching of the Word of God.

The church exists to glorify God, build up believers, and reach the world with the Gospel.

Baptism

We believe there are two ordinances given to the church:

Baptism — immersion in water after salvation as a public testimony of faith in Christ.

The Lord’s Supper — a memorial of Christ’s death to be observed by believers

Separation and Holy Living

We believe that believers are called to live a life that honors God and reflects the transforming power of the Gospel. Christians should strive to live in holiness, separating themselves from sin and from practices that dishonor the Lord.

Our desire is to live in a way that brings glory to God and serves as a testimony to the world.

“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.”

The Great Commission

We believe that the mission of the church is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people. Every believer has the responsibility to share the message of salvation and to make disciples.

West Shores Baptist Church is committed to reaching our local community and supporting missions around the world so that others may hear the good news of Christ.

The Return of Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ will personally and visibly return again. His coming is the blessed hope of believers and will bring the fulfillment of God’s plan for the world.

“So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
— Hebrews 9:28

Heaven and Hell

We believe that heaven is a real place of eternal joy and fellowship with God for those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior.

We also believe that hell is a real place of eternal punishment for those who reject Christ and die in their sins.

Every person will spend eternity in either heaven or hell, based upon whether they have received the salvation provided through Jesus Christ.

“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, born of a virgin, who lived a sinless life. He died on the cross as the substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, was buried, and rose again bodily on the third day.

Through His death and resurrection, He provided salvation for all who believe.

“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God.”
— 1 Peter 3:18

We believe The Authorized Version, commonly known as The King James version to be God's perfect and preserved word. THE Bible. This is our final authority for all matters of faith and practice, and we seek to live according to its truth in every area of life.
